Part time work

Part-time work (including temporary and seasonal work) can help you in ways you might not have thought about. As well as bringing in valuable cash, you can also:

  • gain experience of different companies and industries
  • learn work-related skills that will help your future career prospects
  • build ‘soft skills’ such as the ability to work in a team and the confidence to communicate with people at different levels
  • build up your CV

In some cases a part-time job or ‘temp’ role could even turn into a full-time permanent job…

Top tips

Remember to:

  • collect and record evidence of what you’ve achieved while working – it will help you when you put together your CV
  • make sure you don’t over commit yourself if you’re working part-time while you’re studying. Although it’s tempting to work as much as possible to boost your cash funds - it’s important to leave yourself sufficient time for coursework, revision and anything else you’d like to do during your free time…
